ARCHERY

CILT ACTIVITY SPECIALISATION REQUIREMENTS

Just a few friendly reminders…

You need to develop a binder for each specialisation.  There are no set guidelines for this; you need to do something that will be efficient and create a store of information to use (or even take with you) whenever you are involved with this activity in the future.  In your binder, you should keep track of everything you do!

You need to be an expert in this activity.  Doing as much as possible is the best plan.  You are required to complete all of the following to satisfy the specialisation requirements, however the more you do, the better!

Finally, you will need to be checked off on each of the requirements. ‘Skills’ work will need to be checked off by a knowledgeable member of the camp staff, or someone approved by a CILT instructor.  The rest will be checked off along with your CILT file during your time at camp.

Basic principles of shooting and score recording.

The point-of-aim method of shooting.

How to analyse arrow grouping and correct faults.

How to use a bow sight, if it isn’t standard equipment on camp bows.

  1. Read James 3:1, 13.  What special responsibilities does any teacher have?  Does an archery teacher have?  How has the responsibility you’ve taken in the past (safety habits, fairness, helpfulness, etc.) improved your ability to teach well?  What are areas you could still improve?

  1. Contact relevant organisations (suggestions below) or consult their websites for more information about archery.  It is good to know about more than just what happens at camp.

Skills

  1. Practice archery sufficiently so as to be able to

Score at least sixty points at 15 yards with thirty arrows.

Score at least sixty points at 20 yards with thirty arrows.

Leadership

1.       Collect ‘tools’ that will help you to lead this activity.  This will include at least…

5 ways to challenge / encourage campers at archery.

Example certificates to use to recognise completions of archery targets.

5 creative ideas to keep everyone interested in an archery class even though not everyone is shooting at once.

2.       Develop a 5 day lesson plan for archery that could be used at camp.  Include as much detail as possible, and be creative!

3.       Assist in teaching archery for a week at camp.
