CILT ACTIVITY SPECIALISATION REQUIREMENTS

Just a few friendly reminders…

You need to develop a binder for each specialisation.  There are no set guidelines for this; you need to do something that will be efficient and create a store of information to use (or even take with you) whenever you are involved with this activity in the future.  In your binder, you should keep track of everything you do!

You need to be an expert in this activity.  Doing as much as possible is the best plan.  You are required to complete all of the following to satisfy the specialisation requirements, however the more you do, the better!

Finally, you will need to be checked off on each of the requirements. ‘Skills’ work will need to be checked off by a knowledgeable member of the camp staff, or someone approved by a CILT instructor.  The rest will be checked off along with your CILT file during your time at camp.

Safety

  1. Know the safety rules of any potentially dangerous craft items, and practice them.

Knowledge

  1. Make a list of all the possible items that you could use making a craft.

  1. Have clear and useful directions for the following (and understand them!)

How to determine what age group a craft is appropriate for.

How to prepare crafts and clearly instruct a group on them.

How to effectively set up and clear up for a craft time.

5 crafts involving minimal supplies that could be run with little notice or prep time.

5 unusual crafts that would take a longer amount of time.

5 crafts specifically appropriate for each age group

  1. Read  James 1:2-5.  It takes patience to teach a craft to a group of children.  What encouragement does this passage provide?  Come up with some practical ideas of what you can do when faced with a trying situation.

  1. Contact relevant organisations (suggestions below) or consult their websites for more information about crafts.  It is good to know about more than just what happens at camp.

Skills

  1. Become an expert in a particular craft area (approve it first with a CILT instructor).  Put together as much information as possible about this craft, collecting at least 5 examples of this type of craft.  Also, complete a large project of this craft.

Leadership

1.       Collect ‘tools’ that will help you to lead this activity.  This will include at least…

Techniques to unite a group while working on a craft.

5 activities to keep a craft class running smoothly although campers may work at different speeds.

2.       Develop a 5 day lesson plan for crafts that could be used at camp.  Be creative!

3.       Assist in teaching crafts of some sort for a week at camp.
