CILT ACTIVITY SPECIALISATION REQUIREMENTS

Just a few friendly reminders…

You need to develop a binder for each specialisation.  There are no set guidelines for this; you need to do something that will be efficient and create a store of information to use (or even take with you) whenever you are involved with this activity in the future.  In your binder, you should keep track of everything you do!

You need to be an expert in this activity.  Doing as much as possible is the best plan.  You are required to complete all of the following to satisfy the specialisation requirements, however the more you do, the better!

Finally, you will need to be checked off on each of the requirements. ‘Skills’ work will need to be checked off by a knowledgeable member of the camp staff, or someone approved by a CILT instructor.  The rest will be checked off along with your CILT file during your time at camp.

  1. Know safety rules for photography, and practice them.

  1. Have clear and useful directions for the following (and understand them!)

The principles of how both 35mm SLR and digital cameras work.

The proper care of film and camera – this should cover both digital and 35 mm SLR.

Techniques for taking at least the following styles of photographs action

-          portrait

Process of developing film in a dark room.

Principles of different kinds of lighting, and how to use them to your benefit.

  1. Read Proverbs 18:9.  List three ways you must be thorough in photography to get a good picture.  A result that you hold in your hand makes it easy to see why thoroughness in photography is important.  But thoroughness is important in other areas, too.  What are three ways you could be more thorough in your friendships?  What could be the results?

  1. Contact relevant organisations (suggestions below) or consult their websites for more information about photography.  It is good to know about more than just what happens at camp.

Skills

1.       In order to learn more about nature, build a photographic portfolio.  This should include examples of a variety of types of photos, photographic styles, and lighting.  This should also include a sample of 35 mm photos and digital photographs.

2.       Develop a roll of film in a dark room.

Leadership

  1.  Collect ‘tools’ that will help you to lead this activity.  This will include at least…

Directions to at least 5 activities or games WITH CAMERAS that would encourage campers to learn photography techniques while having fun.

Directions to at least 5 activities or games WITHOUT CAMERAS that would encourage campers to learn photography techniques while having fun.

At least 5 creative ways to teach campers the principles of photography.

  1. Develop a 5 day lesson plan for photography that could be used at camp.  Be creative!

Note : Because photography can be logistically difficult and expensive, with your lesson plan, you need to plan how you could equip yourself for the class, including how much money you would need to run this activity and why.  Discuss more than one option.

  1. Assist in teaching photography for a week at camp.
